Instead of doing anything else, I have decided to devote my life to literature. Many people think that I am a fool — most notably, myself. However, I do what I must. Throughout the years, I have moved in all sorts of directions: often side-to-side, and for a little while there, straight down. Now, we are moving up! Balckwell Rising!!
On this website, I post introspective essays in which I explore questions that are bothering me. Sometimes these questions are related to Big Ideas of the World, and sometimes they are related to Big Ideas of My Life Specifically. I rarely find answers that are perfectly convincing, but I have a good time along the way.

This Substack also includes a podcast: Balckwell’s Books. Once a month, I publish a long-form analysis of a novel. Sometimes, a novel is so large that it takes up multiple months. In between these large, scripted episodes, I publish Mini Episodes in which I talk in a far less structured way about a novel I’ve been thinking about recently.
